Timings

Individual applications for Visas are accepted at the Embassy between 14.00 to 15.30 hrs and Visa applications from authorised agencies are accepted between 09.30 to 10.30 hrs, on all working days (Monday to Friday). Saturday and Sunday are closed holidays. Delivery of documents will be from 17.00 to 17.30 hrs.

Applicants are advised not to finalise travel arrangements to India before obtaining an appropriate visa for India.

All original documents have to be shown at the visa counters for verification of the photocopies attached with the visa applications.

General Requirements for Visas
  1. All applications must be filled online. Printout of duly completed online application form is required for submission at the visa counter. The visa application should be signed only by the applicant and the signature should tally with the signature in the passport.
  2. Photo must be submitted and uploaded online. One photograph of size 5cms X 5cms with white background should be pasted in the space provided in the form as well as uploaded online. (Photo specifications)
  3. Original passport with validity of at least ten months. The passport must have the holder's signature. If the passport is newly issued, the old passport also has to be submitted. In case it has been lost, photocopy of Police report should be submitted. In case it has been retained by the competent authorities at the moment of issuing the new one, applicant has to declare it in writing. In case it is the first passport held, applicant has to declare it in writing.
  4. In case of dual/multiple citizenship, both or all the passports have to be submitted at the visa counter. In the application form, the nationality of the passport on which applicant wants to travel should be inserted in the field "Current nationality", and the passport details should be inserted in the field "Passport details". As for the second nationality, it should be inserted in the field "Any other past/previous nationality" either if applicant currently holds that nationality or held it in the past. In case the passport/s of the second/other nationality/ies has/have been lost photocopy of the police report/s should be submitted. In case it has been surrendered or retained by the competent authorities applicant has to declare it in writing. The second passport should be submitted even if expired or cancelled. If the applicant holds or held a second/other nationality/ies but has never held a passport of that nationality he/she has to declare it in writing.
  5. Correct visa fee.
  6. Supporting documents, where necessary.
  7. In case of visas for minors: Estratto di Nascita, verifying the parenthood of the child, unless the parents' names are mentioned in the minor's passport, in which case also a photocopy of that page should be attached; a joint declaration by the parents stating that the minor will travel in India under their responsibility (signatures should match the ones on the respective passports). In case only one parent travels with the minor two declarations are required. The parent travelling with the minor should declare that the minor will travel in India under his/her responsibility, while the other should declare he/she agrees to the minor traveling to India with the other parent. Photocopy of the passport or Italian carta d'identità, including holder's signature page, of the parent not accompanying the minor should be provided. In case the minor does not travel with his/her parents but with someone else the latter should declare in writing that the minor will travel to India under his/her responsibility and the minor's parents should provide authorization in writing as explained above accompanied by the respective photocopy of their passports or Italian carta d'identità, including the signature page (signatures should match the ones on the respective passports/Italian carta d'identità).
  8. In case of minors included in mother's/father's passport: parents' joint request to issue visa to the minor with the minor's picture pasted (on a plain paper). In case the minor travels to India with only one parent, the other should declare he/she authorizes the minor to travel in India with the former. Photocopy of the passport or Italian carta d'identità, including holder's signature page, of the parent not accompanying the minor should be provided (signature should match the one on the passport/Italian carta d'identità).
  9. Application can be submitted only after 12 hours of successful online submission. Application is only valid for 30 days from the date of online submission.
  10. Data submitted at Visa counter in the Embassy cannot be corrected or changed thus applicants have to check the data before coming to the Embassy. In case of mistakes application will not be accepted and will be returned back.
  11. At least two blank pages are required in the passport.
  12. Members of military/police forces should provide a copy of their approval of leave at the Visa counter. Those who were discharged should declare it on a plain paper attached to the application form, specifying the year of discharge.
  13. Please note that at question no G of the application form the applicant's job/profession should be specified clearly.
  14. Please read all instructions on the application form carefully before filling it out.

Applications have to be filled online and applicant's picture should be uploaded. After filling the application online one has to take a printout of the application. Photo must be submitted and uploaded online. The picture of size 5cms X 5cms, white background has to be fixed on the form but the signed application has to be then submitted at the Embassy Visa counter along with necessary documents.

Principal Types of Visas Issued

Please Note: Persons holding long term visas (having validity exceeding 6 months) are normally expected to stay in India for a maximum of 6 months during each visit. Please refer to the requirement to register with the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO)/Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) given below.

Persons of Indian origin holding multiple entry X-visas, visiting India to meet relatives or for social purposes, are required to register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of first arrival only if they intend to stay continuously for more than 180 days. This registration is required during the first visit after the visa is issued. Subsequent travels using the same visa do not require registration. Children below the age of 16 years are exempted from this requirement. All other visitors to India, including those of Indian origin, holding any other category of visa valid for more than 6 months should register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of arrival in India, if their stay exceeds 180 days on each visit.

  2. Pakistani Nationals are charged a fee of Euro 1.00 in addition to the fax charge of Euro 20.00.
  3. Nationals of Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, Jamaica, Maldives, Mongolia, Mauritius, North Korea (DPRK), South Africa and Uruguay are not charged any visa fees.
  4. Bhutanese and Nepalese Nationals do not require visa.
